CHILL, IT’S MANGO, LASS!
That was the title I had in mind, to be honest. But then, no one would know what was all of this about or what’s (wrong) with me. And nothing is wrong, maybe naming this delicious glass “Lassi” because there is no yoghurt in it. But I really loved those Indian fruit & yoghurt smooth beverages and when I went vegan, I didn’t want to say goodbye to them. So I veganized it to a beautiful, full of flavour coconut smooth drink with a little surprise – Chilli flakes!
Mango is not something I grew up eating in my Grannie’s orchard. It was something I first saw in Germany, in the early 90’s, as something so exotic, unknown, expensive, therefore, pretty not so necessary and out of my reach. Later on, mangos came to Croatia too but still, I wasn’t eager to buy them because they are not domestic, seasonal, are always imported, treated with who knows what and again, expensive. But no matter how much one appreciates domestic, seasonal and trusted produce, that one cannot go living under the stone, right? So I bought a few of those beautiful fruits and fell instantly in love.
THE POWER OF SURPRISE…
Yup, I know. I do sound like from some away, Martian colony. Never ate Mango? Well, I did not, so please, let’s stop at that 😉
And now, there is this beautiful, coconut mango beverage we love and enjoy!
Blessed cool coconut milk creaminess. Little, zingy pieces of not overly ripe mango. And occasional little Chilli flakes that come unexpected, so you don’t get too dreamy and relaxed. What is better than an occasional, little spicy surprise in life?
But there is no surprise that this golden glass of flavour is healthy, easy to whip up, homemade, without preservatives and other whatnots, and nothing really stops you from making one asap! With only a few ingredients, you’ll get yourself a little treat and brighten your day. Luckily, we don’t have to wait for summer fruit to enjoy beautiful fruit treats and this Lassi, in that case, called any other fruit name beverage, would be as delicious! What about some frozen berries or even seasonal pears?
…and some nice beverage too!
What makes a great beverage so great, after all? Apart from stopping the thurst, beverages warm us up in cold or cool down in summer days. Fill us with healthy nutrients, replenish and hydrate our bodies. Bring us together over a nice cup of tea or coffee. Be it merry or not so merry occasion, beverages make us closer, make us calmer, happier.

Mango Lassi. Little pieces of mango coated in cool and creamy coconut milk, with just a zing of lemon and dash of Chilli surprise to spicen your day up!
- 1 nice, ripe mango
- 1 can coconut milk
- 1 tsp maple syrup (optional)
- few drops of lemon juice
- dash of chilli flakes
- water, if you want thinner consistency
Put everything in the blender. Pulse till it's all nice and creamy. Add more water if you want your Lassi thinner. Serve immediately or chilled.
